I'm ruined

Well, no, not really. But my taste in books is definitely screwed.

This is what I found when I googled "ruined" images

I finally picked up a copy of "The Time Traveler's Wife". It started really well, the author even used the word "cock", but then, I got bored. Mind you, I've only read something like 60 pages, so I've got a long way to go, but I'm still waiting for excitement and thrill to take a hold of me.

And, you know why it hasn't happened yet?

Not because there are too many dull descriptions for my ADD self.

Not because there's no anticipation yet - for fuck's sake you already know what's going to happen in the middle of the first chapter.

Not because I'm a little put off  by the whole going back in time thing to meet your wife when she was 6. Yuck. If you thought imprinting on newborns was bad, wait till you get a hold of this book / movie (which I haven't seen yet, btw), and that chapter / scene when 36 year old Henry and 12 year old Clare talk about marriage. Pedophilia anyone?

Nope, none of these are to blame.
Yep, you guessed it: it's because it's not smut. I may've been still hoping that the story would take that turn, but after Audrey (her last name is hell to type) cock-blocked the first sexual encounter between these two characters, I highly doubt this will ever turn to porn.

So, long story short, I was lying in bed last night, wondering whether it's just this particular book that I dislike*, or if I am not going to be able to read anything that doesn't light my skin on fire making me dry hump the chair.

* - It can still happen, btw. I can still love this book; after all, I've gotta give that Audrey chick a little more credit, right?

**JELENA**

P.S. Just in case you're wondering, the only other book I read recently was one by a Japanese writer, Ryu Murakami. While it wasn't smut either, it was filled with sex and violence, so I actually found it interesting.

Hey Jelly Babes, as you may know or not as the case may be I am an AVID reader.
I am at present reading the latest Martina Cole, all london gangland shit & prostitutes getting killed, bit slow at first but picking up, not a lot of sexual description though. I just bought Beautiful Creatures which HG had posted about and I'm enjoying that I started reading it whist waiting to see Consultant, so that's 2 on the go and also a little book called the Wit & Wisdom of DCI Hunt from Life on Mars & Ashes to Ashes fame (fire up the Quattro!) this last one doesn't require too much attention. After that I have a couple of Dean Koontz, 3 more Stephen King books and a Jezza Clarkson to get through oh and I've also ordered the next 3 vampire diary books and the next True Blood one is on pre order too. If I'm gonna be off work for 6 weeks when I get this new op I gotta have then I think reading material is important. I may also get round to reading all the fanfic I have saved-whhhoooooo then I will have all the smut I need YAY!! I love reading and so do my kids. Both my boys english teachers have said the boys vocabulary is 2nd only to theirs and its because of them reading so much. Yay reading!!!!

I totally understand! I haven't hardly been able to read anything that isn't Fan Fiction for the last 6 months (or more)! I actually did read Firestarter by Stephen King here a while back, trying to break the FF hold, but I seriously had to force myself through it! And as soon as I was done, I went straight back to fan fiction!

I actually ordered a book and it finally came in the mail yesterday. YAY! It's called "The Unidentified Redhead" by Alice Clayton. You may have heard of her...she likes to go by the name feathers_mmmm! She wrote I Love L.A. and it was re-worked and is now a real book and I have been immersed in it since then!

Let me now appologize to you, Jelena. I know I have chapter 8 sitting here, waiting for me to finish betaing. And at the same time, I'm having difficulty tearing myself away from this damn book! I finally got myself up (I'm home again with a sick kid) and threw some laundry in and decided to check the blogs. It must have been guilt that made me come here first. *sheepish grin* I promise, before I delve back into my book, I will take care of chapter 8.

Jelly Babes, I applaud you for doing what I have as yet been unable to do since I turned the first page of the first book, which is to actually read something that isn't The Beloved Saga or FF...
I haven't even fucking tried. I know I won't be able to focus!
I'm with ya though....bring on the POOOOOOOOOORRRRRRRRRRNNNNNNN!!!!!!
I'm rereading BD right now, and even though I know there's no naughty business gonna happen, I'm still waiting for it...I'm ruined as well. Meh.

@TW - You got Alice's book??!! Fuckin' A!!! I have only read a couple of teasers, but I know it's a good story. :)

Jelena,
Try staying in the supernatural world at first, then branch back to reality. :)
I loved Beautiful Creatures; witches, magic, etc..
And now I'm reading the House of Night series, which I've heard countless times, are really good. I'm on Book 2 (about Vampires and when they are marked in high school, they are pulled from society and go to prepatory school). These books are quick reads, and have their own version of Edward (Ah, Eric...) So they have the angst, the lust, the anger, etc..
But seriously go get Beautiful Creatures, so we can talk about it.

@ smartEpantz - I got it yesterday and I'm just over half way through! I LOVE IT! Just as much as I loved ILLA!! Maybe more so, because I know who it's REALLY about! I've PM'd hunterhunting, trying to get her to go the same way with CW&IA...so far it doesn't look like it *pout*

@ Jelena - As promised, I didn't touch the book until I was done with your chap! You should be so proud of me!! Now, I'm planting my ass in my chair and gonna finish reading the book!!

Laters!

He he he, Jelena you've been ruined! lmao! I thought you were going to say you couldn't get into it because it wasn't Twilight. I have had that difficulty lately. I tried to read Dear John and got bored. I haven't read The Time Travelers Wife, but I did see the movie. It was good, not great.

I find I am also ruined in the whole 'supernatural' sense...so i try to find things that are TOTALLY different...like memoirs, or stories about strong women who raised 10 kids on a loaf of bread and a glass of water (angela's ashes kind of stuff, or a tree grows in brooklyn). I think you will find that the need for smut will disappear if you truly find something you are interested in. It takes a lot of searching, though. Not easy...
